Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Audiolox collects, why, who sees it, and the choices you have. We do not sell personal information and we do not use advertising trackers.
1. Who we are
Audiolox is operated by Belmont Labs Inc., a Washington corporation. For questions about this policy, write to privacy@audiolox.com.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: email address, password, account type, artist or label name, legal name, contact person, country and preferred language. Passwords are stored only as a one-way hash, so we cannot read them.
- Profile: avatar, bio, location and website.
- Fingerprint and face sign-in: if you set it up, we store a public key and a name for each device, such as "iPhone". Your fingerprint and your face stay on your device and are never sent to us.
- Music details: song information, credits and shares, the names and email addresses of the people you credit, and your declarations about AI use.
- If you listen: the genres you choose, your filters (such as hiding explicit songs), your library, the songs you like, the artists you follow, your playlists and their names, and your choices about messages and notifications.
Information collected when you use the service
- Technical data: IP address, browser and device type, and the date and time of requests.
- Signing records: when you accept a document, we record which version you accepted, the date and time, your IP address and your browser.
- Listening data from the Audiolox apps: which song was played, when, for how long, on which device, and whether it was played without a connection. We use it to count plays and work out payments, to show you what you played recently, and to suggest music.
- Devices that use the app: the name you gave the device (such as "Mark's iPhone"), its model, the version of the app, and when it was last used. Each device also makes a key pair. We store the public half, which is used to lock song keys so that only that device can open them. We record which songs each device was given a key for, and when.
- Notifications: if you allow notifications, the address Apple gives the app for your device (a "device token").
- Assistants: the questions you type into the help assistant or the assistant in the app. We count how many questions an account asks each day. We do not keep a record of the conversations on our servers. In the app, the conversation is kept on your device until you start a new one.
- Messages: the messages we put in the Messages screen of the app, and whether you have read them.
Payment and tax details
Card details, bank details and tax details are collected by our payment provider, Stripe. Audiolox receives a reference and a status from Stripe. We do not store your card number or your bank account numbers. For subscribers, we keep a record of each payment: the amount, the date and Stripe's invoice number.
3. How we use information
- To run your account and the service.
- To count plays, calculate payments and produce your reports.
- To keep a record of the agreements you signed.
- To keep the service secure and to detect fraud, including artificial plays.
- To contact you about your account, your music and changes to our terms, including through the Messages screen of the app and notifications.
- To tell you about new music from artists you follow or play, and about music Audiolox features. A featured release that was paid for is marked "Sponsored".
- To show advertising in the app: slides at the top of a screen and banners between sections. Each one is marked "Ad" or "Sponsored" and names who it is for. Which ads you see depends only on the screen you are on and the country of your subscription. We do not choose ads from what you play, search for or save, and we do not build an advertising profile of you. We count how many times each ad was shown and tapped as totals only. We do not record which listener saw or tapped an ad, and advertisers receive those totals and nothing about you. An ad that opens a web page opens it in your browser, where that company's own privacy policy applies.
- To offer music you may like, in the app and through its assistant, based on the genres you chose and what you have played. You can switch off the assistant's use of your listening under Settings in the app.
- To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
4. Who sees your information
- The public: your profile name, avatar and bio, your songs, the credits on them and each song's AI label.
- People on the same song: everyone credited on a song can see the names, roles and shares of the others credited on it.
- Service providers: companies that host the service, process payments and send email for us, under contracts that limit how they use the information. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the page loads. Email we send automatically, such as password reset links, student codes and team invitations, is delivered by our email provider, MailerSend, which receives the address the message goes to and the message itself. If you ask for the student trial, we keep the school email address you confirm and the date, so that one address cannot be used twice. Questions you type into the help assistant are sent to Anthropic, the maker of the Claude AI model, to produce the answer. We do not send your name, email address or account details with them, so do not type personal or confidential information into the assistant.
- The assistant in the app: what you type to it is sent to Anthropic to produce the answer. So that it can help, we send with it your first name, your language, the state of your subscription (for example "free trial, ends on" a date), your filters, how many devices an account may use, the genres you chose, the artists you have played most in the last 60 days, and the songs the assistant has shown you in that conversation. When it looks at your library, your playlists or what you played lately because you asked, those are sent too. We do not send your email address, your full name, your password or any payment details. If you switch off personal suggestions in Settings, the genres you chose and the artists you play are not sent. Anthropic handles this information under its commercial terms with us.
- AI-written messages: to write a short message about a new release, we send Anthropic facts about the release only (artist, title, genre, number of songs, how it was made). To translate a message into your language, we send the English text. Nothing about you is sent for either.
- Apple: if you allow notifications, they are delivered by Apple's notification service, which receives your device token and the text of the notification.
- Artists and record labels: see totals of plays of their own music, and for record labels that receive sales reports, totals by country. They do not see who listened.
- Legal reasons: when the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of Audiolox, our users or others.
- Business transfer: if Audiolox is merged, sold or reorganized, information may pass to the new owner under this policy.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
5. Cookies
The website and the admin use one essential cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The app keeps a sign-in token and its keys in your device's secure storage. Pages behind shared links (a song, an album or an artist) do not use cookies.
6. How long we keep information
- Account and profile information: while your account is open.
- Signing records and payment records: for as long as the law requires, generally at least seven years.
- Technical logs: up to twelve months, unless needed longer to investigate fraud or a security incident.
- Messages in the app: until you delete them or delete your account.
When a listener deletes their account. We delete your library, likes, follows, playlists, preferences, messages, sign-ins and notification addresses, and we replace your name and email address on the account record with a marker that the account was deleted. We keep, without your name or email address: the record of plays, because the people who made the music are paid from it; the records of your payments and of the documents you accepted, for as long as the law requires; and, if you used the student trial, a scrambled form of the school address that cannot be read back, so the same address cannot be used again.
7. Security
We protect information with encryption in transit, hashed passwords and limits on who can access data. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we will notify you as the law requires.
8. Your choices and rights
- You can view and update most of your information in Profile and Settings.
- Listeners can delete their account under Settings in the app or on their account page at audiolox.com, without writing to us.
- In the app's Settings you can switch off each kind of notification, and switch off the assistant's use of your listening.
- You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to privacy@audiolox.com.
- Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local privacy law. We respond to requests within the time the law sets.
- We cannot delete records we are legally required to keep, such as signing and payment records.
9. Age
Audiolox, including the app and the artist and label admin, is for people aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
10. Where information is kept
Information is stored and processed in the United States. If you use Audiolox from another country, your information will be transferred to the United States.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Each version has a number and an effective date. For a material change, we will give notice by email, in the admin or in the app before it takes effect.
